Polyethylene EX5, also known as SABIC-F00851, is a high molecular weight heavy polyethylene copolymerized with 1-butene as a comonomer. It is also named HDPE GM 9450F. This high molar mass is suitable for blow film applications. When compared to EX4, it demonstrates lower stiffness but increased tenacity. HDPE EX5 is one of the simplest and cheapest polymers and is a waxy and inactive solid polyethylene. PE EX5 comes with a density of 0.949 g/cm³ and its melt flow index (MFI) is 8 (190 °C/21.6 Kg). It is available in the form of granules (pellets) and contains antioxidants, process stabilizers, lubricants, and acid scavengers as additives.

High molecular weight

It indicates that the individual polymer chains are very long, consisting of a large number of ethylene monomers linked together. This results in improved mechanical properties and better long-term performance. These properties are necessary for applications requiring durability, strength, and chemical resistance.

Suitable toughness

It shows a material’s ability to absorb energy and deform plastically without fracturing. Both deformation and high stress can be endured by a tough material. It is a crucial property for applications that may experience drops, collisions, sudden loads, or impacts.

Good rupture power

This represents the material’s resistance to sudden, intense pressure or force. This polyethylene can withstand environmental stress and sudden impacts without failing.

Good rigidity and strength

These physical properties of polyethylene allow products to maintain their shape under load. They can support weight without excessive deformation and fractionation. Balanced rigidity and strength provide more substantial and high-quality final products.

Low gel level

This feature shows the minimal presence of gel-like particles or imperfections in a polymer material. It results in reduced visible defects, enhanced mechanical properties, and assured optical clarity and quality in the final products.

Good tear strength

It refers to a material’s resistance to tearing or continuation of a tear. This property contributes significantly to the material’s performance and reliability for materials subjected to repeated stress or movement.

High tensile strength

This noteworthy feature means the material can withstand high levels of stress and loads under stretching or pulling forces without breaking or failing. It allows for the use of less material while maintaining high performance.

PE EX5 is crucial polyethylene in applications where the material needs to withstand various stresses without failing. EX5 (GM 9450 F) is recommended for use in applications like high-quality films, food packaging, medical products, and any use where material consistency and appearance are critical. Its good rupture power is particularly important in applications like blown films, packaging materials, pipes, and containers where the material needs to resist bursting under pressure or stress. Its high tensile strength makes it suitable for the production of plastic bags and packaging films. This grade is also suitable for food contact to conform to EEC regulations.
